The Metropolis of Lyon affiliates to Electronics Watch

The Metropolis of Lyon (France) has affiliated to Electronics Watch, reaffirming its commitment to promote respect for human rights in its electronics supply chains.

This decision is part of the Lyon Metropolis' efforts in the area of socially responsible procurement, particularly in the digital sector, which is one of the five sectors identified as priorities in the action programme of the Responsible Procurement Promotion Plan (SPAR) adopted by the Metropolitan Council in September 2023.

Through the SPAR, the Lyon Metropolitan Area has aligned its purchasing policy with the objectives of the United Nations Development Programme, including Goal 8 on decent work and Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production. Its affiliation to Electronics Watch reflects Lyon’s focus on ethical public procurement that complies with international standards on human rights at work. By affiliating to Electronics Watch, the Metropolis of Lyon strengthens its ability to identify and remedy violations, especially when it comes to decent wages and the fight against forced labour.

“We are excited to welcome the Metropolis of Lyon to our network of affiliates. Its affiliation reflects a growing recognition among public authorities of the value of collaboration and the importance of worker-led investigative approaches,” said Kate Sullivan, Director of Affiliate Engagement at Electronics Watch.

The Metropolis of Lyon is the second public authority in France to affiliate to Electronics Watch, after the Purchasing Directorate of the French State (la DAE).
