Highlights include verified improvements in factories on issues from forced labour to health and safety, strengthened worker voice by taking action on worker complaints, an increase in affiliations from 85 to 305 and the launch of the Public Buyer Toolkit including updated Contract Conditions for affiliates.
Other achievements from 2018 include:
- Industry developed new programmes in response to major Electronics Watch investigations on debt bondage related to migrant worker recruitment and the link between employment conditions and the risk of worker suicide in the electronics industry in China.
- Electronics Watch adopted a three-year strategic plan that calls for tackling systemic issues, including forced labour, precarious employment, and unsafe workplaces by strengthening affiliate action and the worker-driven monitoring methodology, and building platforms of collaboration with affiliates, monitoring partners, unions and industry.
