Electronics Watch events around Europe

Autumn has been a very busy time for Electronics Watch. We have participated in conferences across Europe, including...

October 27, The Hague, Netherlands: Conference on a Living Wage in the Agriculture and Electronics Supply Chains, organized by the Dutch National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines. 140 people participated in sessions on topics such as the role of certification, supply chain transparency and precarious work, and Electronics Watch was presented as a good practice example for the electronics industry.

November 16-17, Gelsenkirchen, Germany: Conference on socially responsible procurement of IT hardware.  Organized by WEED and One World Network NRW. This event allowed for active exchange between public procurers, regional politicians, and NGOs as well as the IT industry about the possibilities of the public sector to improve the working conditions in the global IT industry.

November 17, Smart City Expo World Congress, Barcelona, Catalonia: Electronics Watch was invited to present in the Governance section of this important global gathering of cities on "Developing Innovative Public Procurement Practices" to an audience of 100 public procurers from different countries around the world.

December 3, "Behind your Screen: Human & Environmental Conditions in the Electronics Industry", London, UK: with speakers from labour rights organizations in the Philippines, Mexico and the USA, as well as Europe. This was an open event, which sparked lively debate between students, staff members and the public.

December 4, symposium on "Socially Responsible Public Procurement of Electronic Products: The Challenges of Monitoring the Supply Chain", London, UK: which we were proud to co-sponsor with the Business, Human Rights and Environment Research Group at the University of Greenwich, and the London Universities Purchasing Consortium. This event, for Electronics Watch affiliates and select public sector buyers, created a vital platform for interaction between human rights and procurement experts. As David Foust from CEREAL, one of the Electronics Watch monitoring organisations in Mexico, highlights "The Symposium was very exciting and fruitful. We do hope that more universities and public institutions will get on board".
