Electronics Watch Featured at Recent Sustainable Procurement Conferences
Electronics Watch has got the word out at conferences on both sides of the Atlantic in recent months.
In June, Electronics Watch presented its monitoring model to delegates from higher education institutions and public sector organisations from across London and Southern England at the "Collaboration in Action" conference, organised by the London Universities Purchasing Consortium and the Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium. Electronics Watch board member, Dr. Olga Martin-Ortega, also participated in the conference, discussing modern slavery in global supply chains and the requirements of the UK Modern Slavery Act on commercial and public interest organisations, especially the Transparency in the Supply Chain provisions of the Act.
At the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council's annual Summit in Washington D.C. in May, Electronics Watch joined presenters from the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) and the Harrison Institute for Public Law and Georgetown Law, to discuss "the social in sustainability." The panel, "Smoke, Suicide, Slavery," highlighted the risk of human rights abuses in the apparel, electronics, and food industries. At another session, Electronics Watch discussed supplier codes of conduct programs along with fellow panelists from the Lockheed Martin Corporation and TUV Rheinland, focusing on meaningful due diligence requirements in contractually binding supplier codes.
