First Irish affiliate joins Electronics Watch
The Office of Government Procurement (OGP), responsible for public procurement policy and Central Purchasing Body for ICT products (among other categories) in Ireland, has recently affiliated to Electronics Watch.
In a demonstration of its commitment to ethical sourcing, responsible supply chain management and the highest standards of corporate ethics, the OGP was recently awarded the Corporate Ethical Procurement and Supply certification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) for the second year running. In addition, earlier this year the OGP joined the international procurement-led Circular & Fair ICT Pact (CFIT) as a procurement organisation, to collaborate with partners to accelerate circularity, fairness and sustainability in the ICT sector.
"Becoming an affiliate of Electronics Watch was a logical next step on our journey towards embedding sustainability into our procurement processes across our central arrangements for ICT goods" according to Fergal Ryan, ICT Portfolio Manager at OGP.
"The unique Electronics Watch, which is focussed on workers' human rights, brings together all relevant stakeholders from public sector buyers, civil society organisations in electronics production and mining regions, trade unions, and other experts in human rights and global supply chains. We are very much looking forward to working with Electronics Watch to implement enhanced standards of due diligence in respect of the supply chains which underpin our frameworks and, where possible, to use public procurement leverage to drive positive impact for workers."
Björn Claeson, Electronics Watch Executive Director, said: "This affiliation marks a crucial milestone as OGP becomes the first public body from Ireland to join Electronics Watch. We are excited to join forces, as OGP takes a pioneering role in championing responsible public procurement."
