Hot Topic: Public Procurement and Human Rights

Public procurement and human rights is an increasingly hot topic among institutional buyers and suppliers and Electronics Watch is an active participant in meetings and conferences that bring together leading practitioners.  In just a few short months this autumn Electronics Watch is participating in seven roundtables and conferences throughout Europe and the United States with representatives of public buyers, NGOs, academics, and industry.  All these fora are highlighting best practice on public procurement and human rights, seeking to identify practical solutions on transparency, risk assessments, and labour rights compliance. Here is a snapshot of upcoming events :

  • November, Bremen: Conference on sustainable IT production focusing on social aspects in public procurement, organised by a network of sixteen German development organisations.  Participants include experts from NGOs, administrations, and the private sector.
  • November, Santa Clara, California: Public procurement panel at the annual EICC conference focused on corporate social responsibility in the global electronics supply chain.  The panel will educate attendees on the changing landscape of public procurement both in the US and Europe
  • November, Geneva: Panel on "Human Rights and Government Procurement: Emerging Practice in the Apparel and Electronics Sectors" at the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights.
  • November, Geneva: The second Workshop on Public Procurement and Human Rights organized by the International Learning Lab on Public Procurement and Human Rights brings together stakeholders for an interactive discussion on integrating human rights into public procurement.
