Resilience through Sustainability
On September 8, more than 60 people participated in the Electronics Watch webinar "Public Procurement in Times of Crisis and Beyond: Resilience through Sustainability." Twelve speakers – experts in public procurement, monitoring and social auditing from nine countries – contributed their ideas on how to strengthen social and environmental responsibility in public procurement, conduct effective supply chain engagement, and support meaningful worker participation.
In their presentations the speakers coalesced towards three overarching objectives. First, public procurement demand that is aligned with sustainability goals and gives strong incentives to responsible business. Second, transparency of supply chains, due diligence and working conditions that goes beyond current best practice. Third, the central role of collaboration among public buyers and between public buyers and their suppliers to further develop social responsibility in supply chains.
